Petaling Jaya, 03 August 2026 – The new range of Isuzu D-MAX pick-up trucks with its latest 2.2-litre diesel engines continues to drive Malaysia forward with its strong appeal of improved performance, greater refinement and superior fuel economy.
The brand’s market share rose by a significant three percentage points over its previous quarter performance to command a 17.3 percent share of the pick-up truck segment in the second quarter of 2026.
“The traditionally-renowned capabilities of the Isuzu D-MAX now combines with a new suite of performance benefits that include refined performance and even greater fuel efficiency that offers Malaysian motorists with a superior all-round pick-up truck,” said Chief Executive Officer of Isuzu Malaysia Tomoyuki Yamaguchi.
Unsurprisingly, the top selling variant in the line-up has been the new 2.2-litre Standard 4×4 Auto variant that makes up 36 percent of Isuzu D-MAX’s sales.
Following the launch of the new 2026 Isuzu D-MAX range in March this year, Isuzu offers one of the widest selection of pick-up truck variants in the market with ten variants to choose from. The new 2.2-litre powerplant that supercedes the highly-popular 1.9-litre powerplant has quickly become the engine of choice for most buyers as it offers a new dynamic driving character while offering improved refinement, response and fuel economy whilst being compliant with the highest Euro 5 emission standards. The new engine is further mated to a highly responsive 8-speed automatic transmission designed specifically to tap the performance characteristics of the new engine.
Malaysia’s first Single Cab pick-up truck to be available with an automatic transmission has been a tremendous hit due to its easy driving character yet is able to deliver significant loads regardless of terrain with its superior 4×4 system. The 2.2-litre Single Cab Auto already accounts for 60 percent of Isuzu D-MAX single cab sales and is expected to continue growing in popularity as it is quickly proving its capability as a workhorse despite being easy to handle.
According to Chief Operating Officer of Isuzu Malaysia’s Light Commercial Vehicle Division Kenichi Kudo, the new engine adds a fresh dimension to the driving pleasure and capability of the new Isuzu D-MAX.
