The 34th Borneo Safari this year will feature three units of the all-new Isuzu D-MAX 2.2-litre models equipped with the new 8-speed automatic transmission including two units of the Double Cab and one unit of Malaysia’s first automatic transmission Single Cab serving as the official media cars. This was announced in Kuala Lumpur recently during the official sponsorship handover ceremony, marking Isuzu Malaysia’s 18th consecutive year as the event’s Diamond Sponsor.
According to Chief Operating Officer (Light Commercial Vehicle Division) Kenichi Kudo, the Borneo Safari provides the ideal platform to showcase the remarkable characteristics of the new 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engines.
“Under extreme conditions such as hauling heavy loads through thick mud and deep jungle gulleys faced in the Borneo Safari, the impressive characteristics of the new engines will be clearly apparent. With more than half of the engine’s maximum torque available from as low as 1,000RPM, tackling these obstacles can be done with greater confidence and safety,” said Kudo.
This year’s Borneo Safari will kick off from the capital of Kota Kinabalu on 25th October and traverse through the thick jungles of Sabah for a week before returning to the city.
Marking the official sponsorship handover, Isuzu Malaysia CEO Tomoyuki Yamaguchi and Kenichi Kudo participated in a flag presentation with delegates from the organizing committee including its Event Director Faez Nordin, Event Manager Alex Leong, Sponsorship and Merchandise Manager Chee Shin Hao and Event Marketing and Promotion Head Alison Murugesu.
